Wow - we are SO excited to finally be offering this special hands-on soap making workshop! This SOAP LAB was designed specifically for those of you who have taken our CP 101 class but have yet to take the leap to making your first batch on your own. Perhaps you are a little apprehensive about working with sodium hydroxide. Or, your kitchen is a bit too small or a bit too occupied for a safe/focused soap making experience. Or, maybe you just don't want to deal with ordering all the supplies - you just want to go somewhere - make soap - and take it ALL home with you! After listening to what students want - we developed this unique opportunity. Under the careful supervision of soap making power team Lori Nova and David Critchfield, you will make your own batch of soap, from start to finish. We will be here to help if you need or simply to observe as you design & make your own soap using the cold process method (in our opinion - when done correctly, with good quality natural ingredients, this soap method produces the best soap money can buy!). We will supply all the raw materials and ingredients that you will need - the few things you need to bring are listed below. They are equipment related and you will be able to use in them for future soap making adventures. The best part is that you will go home with the 4-pound batch of soap that you made in class (yields about 18-20 bars of soap) - all bundled up so you can finish the curing process at home. The $30 materials fee (paid in cash to the teacher on the day of class) covers everything described below. You will also have the opportunity to purchase soap making supplies from the teacher after the class (cash/check only). WE WILL SUPPLY THE FOLLOWING: * A container to mix your soap in * Base oils: blend of coconut, palm, high-oleic canola, castor & olive * Anti-oxidant (already added to the oil mixture) * Distilled water (pre-measured) * Sodium hydroxide (lye) * Materials for lining your molds (depending on the type of mold you bring) * Plastic wrap for the top of the mold (optional: to avoid soda ash) * Tested essential oil & additive combinations (your choice - can mix/match additives): 1) Lavender & Oatmeal (a classic favorite for all skin types) 2) Orange & Cinnamon (a delicious sweet/spicy mix) 3) Lemon Poppyseed (another popular natural combination) 4) Spearmint & Lime (aka Mojito - like the Cuban drink) Optional: If you prefer to use a scent combination other than what is provided, you are welcome to bring your own essential oils, colors and/or additives to further customize your soap. There will be no discount off the materials fee if you choose to bring your own ingredients. STUDENTS WILL NEED TO BRING: * Stick blender for mixing (can be purchased at Longs or Target for under $15) * Gloves & goggles (we will have some to share but you will probably want your own) * Non-aluminum mixing spoon & high heat spatula (a flimsy/cheap one might melt) * Soap mold large enough to hold 6 pounds of raw soap or 20 bars (a simple shoe box will do) * 2 bath towels or blankets to wrap your soap in We anticipate this unique soap lab will fill quickly! (Note: There will be a maximum of 10 people for each session.) $59 (+ $30 MAT FEE)

Join Diane for another fun-filled afternoon in her newest hands-on workshop designed to take the techniques learned in her basic Beeswax Collage class to the next level. You will create a stunning hinged canvas art piece from two 8" x 10" canvases. We will begin by preparing the canvases with a background of ink and torn tissue paper adhered with melted beeswax. Then, students will select images and other papers to enhance the collage - using a nature bird theme as our guide. We will add color to the collaged paper ephemera using both crayons and water soluble oil pastels. Once the basic design and framework for the canvases is done, we will create small niches with vignettes inside the canvas that will be adorned with natural objects, feather birds or eggs. To add individual personality and charm, you will further embellish your canvases with letters, quotes, ribbons and found objects. Last but not least, hinges will be added to create your final standing art masterpiece. All the necessary materials will be supplied: two canvas boards, collage materials, ephemera, beeswax, embellishments and more. Students are welcome to bring their own elements to personalize their canvases, but this is not necessary. You will create a pair of imaginative beeswax art collages that you will be proud to display in your home or give as a gift to *wow* your recipient. $49 (+ $20 MAT FEE)

Did you know that with very little equipment and materials, you can make your own foundation, blush and eye shadow at home? It's not only fun and makes a great gift, but the cost of the raw materials is about one-tenth of what you would pay at a name brand cosmetic company - for the same or better quality! Come and learn about all the raw materials commonly used to make loose mineral makeup from scratch like zinc oxide, bismuth oxychloride, micronized titanium dioxide, iron oxides and serecite mica. You will gain insight into the world of specialty pigments -- colored micas, interference colors and the like -- which you can use to blend your own shades of makeup. We'll also discuss the different brushes and containers that are commonly used with mineral makeup, as well as where to purchase all your supplies. $59 (+ $20 MAT FEE)

Learn the Secret to Making Beautiful Silver Rings with PMC! In this fun day long session, you'll learn the basics of working with metal clay with a focus of learning the fundamentals of ring making with PMC-3. Although helpful, no prior PMC experience is needed! In this hands-on workshop you'll learn: correct ring sizing, different construction methods, layering and adding textures, stone setting and finishing techniques. You'll also learn how to apply a beautiful patina to your designs to give them additional depth and character. Although we'll be using a kiln in this class, there will be a demo on torch firing so you can see how easy it is to make PMC creations in your own home. You'll decide what to make in class; either a bypass ring or traditional ring. The materials fee (paid in class directly to the teacher) covers your PMC-3 (17.8 grams), one gemstone and in-class use of all the necessary tools - everything needed to create your one of a kind ring. You will leave with at least one completed silver ring, made and designed by YOU, handouts and resources, and the skills necessary to make fine silver jewelry, from start to finish, in your very own home! NOTE: Students will have the option of purchasing additional supplies from the teacher on the day of class. For example, you may wish to purchase additional gem stones to embellish your creations, or more PMC-3 to work with at home. The teacher will accept cash, CA state checks or credit cards. $99 (+ $45 MAT FEE)
