Wiki Wednesday is a party with a featured speaker or discussion topic, related to wikis. We get together to chat, learn about wikis, find jobs, talk deals, and hang out. People who participated in the all-day Wikithon (a wiki hackathon) can show off their cool hacks. Anyone else is welcome to give a brief demo or lightning talk. Socialtext and co-hosts will provide the space and food for the party. Our featured speaker for August will be Yoz Grahame speaking on "Folk Logic". Talk summary: Wikis take the living library of the Web and, in pulling it into a single shared space, kick it up a notch. What wikis do for collaborative writing, folk logic platforms do for code. It's the reason Second Life has a hundred new features every day. Social spaces that allow their users to code incubate the birth of remarkable new forms of digital life. But you can get some of their benefits with more traditional wikis too - because wikis aren't just about text. Bio: Yoz Grahame is an incurable sociali[ser|te|st] and serial startup addict. He's currently attempting to put down more permanent roots at Linden Lab, the creators of Second Life, where he manages internal web and tools projects. Before that, he dallied at Ning, Sparza and Douglas Adams's h2g2. He's been fascinated by the spontaneous creative activities of internet crowds since he first logged onto LambdaMOO in 1993. He left his adenoids in London and his heart in San Francisco. He likes cake more than is healthy. You can find him at http://yoz.com/ .

They're a non-profit organization that uses wikis heavily, and they've got insight to spare -- especially for other non-profit organizations or internet media gurus. Speakers will be Craig Rosa, Interactive Producer from QUEST at KQED, and two of his colleagues, the KQED content coordinator (main wiki gardener) and web systems engineer (who set it up and creates custom scripts / pages / forms as we need them).

Plan to arrive early or call ahead for seating availability. Q&A with Tom Atencio, co-producer and New Order’s North American manager This fantastic new documentary is a perfect complement to Control, the recent fictionalized account of the life of Ian Curtis and his band Joy Division. In 1976 after attending a Sex Pistols concert, four young men from ruined, post-industrial Manchester founded Joy Division. Though the group achieved only modest success during their career, they have proven to be one of the most inventive and influential bands of their era. Featuring interviews with surviving band members, the film examines their story through never-before-seen live performance footage, personal photos and newly discovered audio tapes.
