Front & Center with John Callaway, "The Two Koreas"

Where: Pritzker Military Library

Date: 2008-04-24 18:00:00

THE TWO KOREAS: WHAT IS THE WAY FORWARD? WHAT: Front & Center with John Callaway, Chicago’s only monthly public affairs program on military affairs, takes a look at current developments in North and South Korea. WHY: North Korea recently threatened to turn South Korea into a “sea of fire”, and reduce its neighbor to “ashes”. After the apparent progress of last fall’s six-nation talks, what does this return to nuclear rhetoric mean? The North is heavily dependent on China for food and fuel, while the South is one of America’s strongest allies. What is our strategic position in the region? What is in store for the two Koreas, their neighbors and the world? WHERE: Pritzker Military Library, 610 N. Fairbanks Court, Chicago. WHEN: The presentation and live webcast will begin on Thursday, April 24th, at 6:00 p.m. HOW: This program is free and open to the public. Seating for this event is limited, so reservations are strongly recommended. Call 312.587.0234 or email events@pritzkermilitarylibrary.net. WHO: Veteran broadcast journalist John Callaway moderates panel discussion with Prof. Bruce Cumings, Chair of the Department of History at the University of Chicago and specialist in modern Korean history; Brig. Gen. Joe E. Ramirez Jr., Assistant Division Commander, 2nd US Infantry Division, South Korea; and Sung Hwan Son, Consul General of the Republic of Korea, Chicago. The Pritzker Military Library is a non-partisan military research library with over 27,000 historical, reference, biographical and rare books on military subjects, over 800 original antique military posters and prints, and other military artifacts from private donors and the collection of COL (IL) James N. Pritzker, ARNG (Ret.). Since opening in October 2003, the Library has produced over 190 programs including author events, interviews with Medal of Honor recipients, and Chicago’s only monthly military affairs panel program, Front & Center with John Callaway.
