The Austin Film Society is presents its latest Essential Cinema series entitled "Ascending Dragon: Films of Greater China". The third film of this series, UNKNOWN PLEASURES, created by the writer/director of THE WORLD, looks at teenage slackers who smoke, sit in pool halls, ride a motorcycle, try to talk to girls and even women, watch TV, and generally waste all their time in mindless inactivity. They are almost charming in their inarticulateness and shy bravado. As with all of Jia Zhang-Ke’s films, the cinematography, composition, and pacing are masterful. Folk-rock vocalist Brett Dennen's 2006 release 'So Much More' is just that - so much more than most debut albums are in its songwriting, musicianship and expressiveness. Compared to Tracy Chapman, Bob Dylan and Dave Matthews, Dennen's taking the critics by storm and picking up more than a few fans along the way. Singer/songwriter Mason Jennings is the rare pop artist that speaks from the heart and with literary poise. Missy Higgins is a singer/songwriter from Melbourne, Australia.
