~ Walk for Peace ~ The South Florida Campaign for a "U.S. Department of Peace and Nonviolence" Did you know there currently is a bill in Congress (HR-808) to create a U.S. Department of Peace and Nonviolence? This very powerful bill already has 68 co-sponsors and is rapidly growing. We have one Co-Sponsor - Rep. Alcee Hastings in Fort Lauderdale and want the other 7 South Florida Representatives to sign this bill too. Now is the time to ask your Representative to co-sponsor it and help create awareness by joining us for our first South Florida Dept of Peace - Walk for Peace! Please join us in this family-friendly, Pro-Peace Walk! You may bring a Pro-Peace Sign. PLEASE NO “Anti-Anything” Signs! This is not a protest! This is a time to unify for peace! We're walking on Sunday September 16th to raise awareness of the Violence-Prevention Bill - HR-808 in Congress and the national grassroots campaign to create a U.S. Department of Peace and Nonviolence. Please forward this bulletin to friends.!! We will park at Holiday Park in Fort Lauderdale, walk to War Memorial next door for a moment of silence then walk a few blocks down Federal highway and turn right at Broward Blvd arriving at the steps of the United States Federal Courthouse. Registration/Check In 8:00AM - 8:30AM. Our walk is not a protest, not an anti-war march or rally. We are for peace and the U.S. Department of Peace, specifically. We are not against anything. We will have t-shirts, signs, banners, etc that promote only the U.S. Dept of Peace and are not statements of opposition. Bottled water will be provided. If sunny, participants are encouraged to wear hats and sunscreen. If rainy participants are encouraged to bring rain gear. Please help support us by forwarding this email to family, friends, activists in your district, and other interested parties. We plan on making this Walk for Peace a great success. It goes without saying, the more participants and contributions we receive, the greater likelihood is that we will achieve our goal. Attached are the flyer, registration form and information sheet. If you are able to join us for the walk, please send an email to SouthFloridaDOP@yahoo.com Thank you very much for your participation and donation! We look forward to seeing you on Sunday, September 16th, 2007!
