Boston, June 7, 2007 – Berklee’s student-run jazz label, Jazz Revelation Records (JRR), will present a free concert to celebrate the release of its new CD, The New Old School, at Boston’s hottest new nightspot, the Beehive, Tuesday, July 10, 2007. The concert is 10:00 p.m. – 1:15 a.m. The Beehive is at 541 Tremont St. For more information, call 617-423-0069, or visit: www.beehiveboston.com. The event – which concludes the weekly Berklee at the Beehive: Emerging Artists Series – features performances by JRR artists Jake Hertzog (contemporary jazz) and Marcelo Woloski (Latin jazz). Jake Hertzog is an outstanding contemporary jazz guitarist, composer, and bandleader from Champaign, IL, who graduated from Berklee in 2007. In 2006, Hertzog was declared the grand-prize winner of the Montreux Jazz Guitar Competition, held at the Montreux Jazz Festival. He will perform at the festival again this year in July. Hertzog has performed with several big bands, and released two albums under his own name, Rate of Ascension and Expressions, which are both available online. His music is also featured on the Jazz Revelation Records CD Ars Nova. Marcelo Woloski, a percussionist from Buenos Aires, Argentina, composes and performs music that blends Argentinean, Brazilian, Afro Cuban, Afro Peruvian, and Uruguayan rhythms with jazz harmonies. He attended the Berklee International Network partner school in Argentina before moving to Boston to complete his studies as a scholarship student at Berklee. Woloski’s versatility has placed him in high demand on and off campus, performing in numerous shows at the prestigious Berklee Performance Center, as well as Boston's Ryles and Regattabar nightclubs. Jazz Revelation Records, Berklee's student-run jazz record label, was formed in the spring of 2003. Under previous management, Jazz Revelation Records successfully released the compilation CDs Rebirth, Two, and Ars Nova. Under the direction of current president, Michael Borgida, the label has just released its fourth album, The New Old School. For the new CD, JRR gathered eight passionate and committed artists from around the world – France, Israel, Argentina, Columbia, Venezuela, and the U.S. – all speaking the traditional language of jazz in a new way. The label is currently presenting its third annual Kendall Square Concert Series, and teaming for the first time with the Institute of Contemporary Art for Harborwalk Sounds: Berklee at the ICA; both are weekly showcases of JRR artists.
