Achieving musical transcendence is a tricky feat, almost definitively. If it happens at all, it happens naturally and perhaps nobody knows that better than Seattle, Washington's Band of Horses. Guitarist/vocalist Ben Bridwell and guitarist Mat Brooke formed Band of Horses in 2004, after the dissolution of their nearly ten-year run in northwest melancholic darlings Carissas Wierd. Band of Horses rises from the ashes of that well-loved band. After playing music with each other for over a decade, Bridwell and Brooke picked up together again when Bridwell began fleshing out his compositions post-Carissas. Buoyed by Bridwells warm, reverb-heavy vocals (which strangely channel a dichotomous blend of Wayne Coyne, Brian Wilson and Doug Martsch,) Band of Horses woodsy, dreamy songs ooze with amorphous tension, longing and hope.

The Vans Warped Tour showcases established and emerging bands in the pop-punk, ska, and alternative rock genres. The Canadian bands performing on the 2008 Vans Warped Tour are: Bedouin Soundclash Hailing from Kingston, ON, Bedouin Soundclash's music can be described as a mixture of reggae, ska, soul, and rock. The three-man band, who met while attending Queen's University, are best known for their 2005 hit single "When The Night Feels My Song," from their sophomore album, Sounding A Mosaic. They have since released a third album, Street Records, in the summer of 2007. Protest the Hero The band from Whitby, ON recently released their second full-length album, Fortress, in January of 2008. Though they are hesitant to categorize their genre, Protest the Hero can be described as punk with elements of pop and metal. They have won numerous awards for independent and alternative music in Canada. The Saint Alvia Cartel The Saint Alvia Cartel, comprised of members who have attained previous success with other bands, is a Juno-nominated punk-rock powerhouse that incorporates numerous other genres in their music. Named for Ernest Alvia 'Smokey' Smith, the last living recipient of the Victoria Cross from the Second World War, the band originated in Burlington, ON.
