It was formed in 1997 in Thibodaux, Louisiana. Detroit's The Black Dahlia Murder actually sound like they should live in Scandinavia, from whence originates much of the frenetic brand of death and black metal that inspires them. Formed in 2001, the group followed their six-song 'What a Horrible Night to Have a Curse' demo with the four-track 'A Cold-Blooded Epitaph E.P.,' which was released on their own Lovelost Records. With a number of acclaimed concerts appearances like the Milwaukee Metal Fest already under their belts, the group then signed with Metal Blade in 2003 and were soon recording their debut album 'Unhallowed.' This exhibit highlights the craftsmanship and design talent of various tribes.

The Roots

Where: House of Blues

Date: 2007-09-20 20:00:00

Type:

The Philadelphia based group, The Roots, showed the way for live rap, building on Stetsasonic's "hip-hop band" philosophy of the mid-'80s, by focusing on live instrumentation at their concerts and in the studio. Although their album work has been inconsistent, more intent on building grooves than pushing songs, The Roots' live shows are among the best in the business. South African born and New York City raised MC/producer Jean Grae received great critical acclaim for her debut LP, 'Attack Of The Attacking Things,' on Third Earth Music, most recently being named one of Rolling Stone's top 10 to look out for in 2003.
