Come join Ann Arbor Kirtan for an informal evening of yogic and sanskrit chanting. Kirtan is a participatory, call-and-response, cross-cultural music experience that incorporates the audience right into the performance. Kirtan is less about musical ability or training, and more about the heart, reconnecting us with our inner self and universal consciousness. We combine Indian and western instruments and melodies, including bass guitar, guitar, dulcimer, key board, tambura, harmonium, flute, cymbals, tabla, and an assortment of other drums.

This fast rising star returns to Ann Arbor with his wisecracking comedy and mischievous attitude. The Village Voice called McPeek a "sure fire hit with star potential." At thirty-two years of age, and weighing in at 320 pounds, comedian Kevin McPeek proudly claims that "I've been gaining ten pounds a year since the day I was born." The math may be fuzzy, but McPeek's gargantuosity is the heart and soul of his act. This may not seem like any kind of selling point, but I'm here to tell you that in the hands of this New York City-based comic (and former Monroe resident), it all adds up to some plus-size laughter. McPeek's a master at getting his crowd on his side, teaching them his signature asides ("buddy," "pal," "dude") and tossing good-natured insults when deserved. What's funnier is when McPeek expands his musings on phone sex, small cars, childhood, how men and women deal with being sore, and just how a 320-pound man manages in the shower when he drops the soap. Don’t miss a Comedy Showcase favorite this week on our stage.

Singer and pianist Ben Folds is best known for his power pop trio Ben Folds Five, which broke into the mainstream with the 1997 ballad 'Brick.' Folds' post BF5 work includes 'Rockin' the Suburbs' and the 'Fear of Pop' release featuring the track 'In Love' with William Shatner's vocals. Other recent projects include The Bens, with Folds, Ben Kweller and Ben Lee, plus the EPs 'Speed Graphic' and 'Sunny 16.' Their name taken from a Monty Python sketch, Toad the Wet Sprocket's mellow, melodic folk-pop sound made them one of the most successful alternative rock bands of the early 1990s. Recording six albums, the group officially split in 1998, but infrequent reunion shows still prove that the band's popularity has not waned.
