Govenor Spitzer’s new team is apparently giving Atlantic Yards project the hard look it deserves. But they are still planning to allow Forest City Ratner to demolish two entire city blocks – including historic buildings that should be reused like the Ward Bakery - to create enormous “temporary” surface parking lots for over 1400 cars that would blight Brooklyn for decades. Click here to find out more. These parking lots will also encourage more people to drive, leading to worse traffic, worse air quality, and worse quality of life for those living in the surrounding neighborhoods. And they simply aren’t needed. No other large-scale development in the city has required the demolition of two city blocks for parking. We need to send Eliot Spitzer and Mike Bloomberg a simple message: New Yorkers deserve better. Please join us to rally against demolition for parking on Sunday April 15 at 2 p.m. on Pacific Street between Carlton and Vanderbilt Avenues in Prospect Heights. There will be passionate speeches and great music – the Lafayette Inspirational Gospel Choir and singer Dave Hall will be performing.

Tonight, March 2, Moviehouse brings two kinds of crazy to the screen. It's The Royal Tenenbaums and One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest with two deliciously dysfunctional New York shorts and an afterparty featuring the visual delights of VJ Clay Franklin. Come see the show at Galapagos Art Space at 8pm. Revel in the classic individual madness of One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest or marvel at the deeply-flawed geniuses of The Royal Tenenbaums. You pick! The night opens with two brilliant New York shorts that tells tales of deteriorated relationships (one serious, one not-so-much). In Vartan LLP by Myles Price, one of the most powerful fund managers working on Wall Street is shaken to his core by one phone call. In Carlough Brothers by Will Carlough, Will and his brother come to terms with their parents divorce with a little help from Star Wars composer John Williams. To close the evening, VJ Clay Franklin splices together found footage, classic scenes and crazy stuff he made himself. As always there's free popcorn for everyone and free drinks for the winner of the red jumpsuit trivia contest. All this of just $5. Moviehouse presents NYC's best short films, a classic feature, and an afterparty with the neighborhood's best VJs and DJs on the first Sunday of every month at Galapagos Art Space. The event is sponsored by Brilliant Productions (www.brilliantp.com), Indiepix (www.indiepixfilms.com), East Village Radio (www.eastvillageradio.com), Reel Life Video (www.reellifenyc.com), and Galapagos Art Space (www.galapagosartspace.com).
