Mudhoney Performing Superfuzz Bigmuff Plus Early Singles Doors 7pm 21+ $20 tickets http://www.myspace.com/mudhoney When Mudhoney issued its debut EP, Superfuzz Bigmuff (named after the vintage distortion pedals used by guitarists Mark Arm and Steve Turner), and a bilious Stooges-worthy single, "Touch Me I'm Sick," it birthed Seattle grunge. Arm and Turner are Green River alums, just like Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard, who went on to form Pearl Jam. Whereas Pearl Jam updated the anthemic possibilities of early '70s arena rock, Mudhoney played as if it had emerged from the same '60s garage in which Pacific Northwest heroes the Sonics honed their no-frills assault. Equal parts alienation and inebriation, the quar-tet's music never caught on commercially like that of their peers Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and Soundgarden. That's because Mudhoney's records boast a caustic, dirty-fingernails sound that falls just short of slipshod. - Greg Kot, Rolling Stone

New York Experimental, The Tank’s monthly experimental film, video, and live media performance series, is pleased to present an evening of live audiovisual performance and an in-house workshop with Australian artist duo Dan Monceaux and Emma Sterling. SUPERMARKET | Wednesday, November 28th, 2007 @ 7:00 PM: From Super8 abstractions to video-sampled mash-up fronted by a keyboard player and a VJ, Supermarket will be sharing its debut hybrid new-media performances with select gallery shows in the USA and Canada in November and December, 2007. This work was brought to light after a one month artists' residency at Squeaky Wheel Media Arts Centre in Buffalo NY, USA. The energy and vibrancy of the music and visual components of the Supermarket work are designed to captivate and stimulate audiences, and provoke enquiry about the systems, man-made and natural, that govern our existence. The tone moves through shades of light and dark, sharing the familiar and strange in equal measure. "As lofty as it sounds, we aim to create a sonic and visual space that is timeless and universal, and are committed to expanding the work wherever our practice takes us. We believe that the abstract languages of music and image are the ultimate vehicles for reaching the subconscious mind." Linear narrative concepts are replaced in favor of impressions of places, feelings, dreams. Embracing the opportunity to hybridize the screen and improvise the delivery, each instance of the work will be unique and each audience and venue will inspire a new arrangement of the Supermarket's wares. Take stock now: over time the project's shelves and aisles will reveal many and diverse riches… and ever. MUSIC VIDEO WORKSHOP | Saturday, December 1st, 2007 @ 3:00 PM: This collaborative workshop will empower media makers to create their own music videos to music from independent electronic musicians. Emma Sterling and Dan Monceaux will provide and discuss examples of experimental approaches to the music video form (no 'band-in-a-room' clips here) and get you thinking outside the square. Follow-up production consultation included. Session will run approximately 3 hours. ABOUT THE ARTISTS: South Australian Dan Monceaux is a freelance artist who at the age of 26 has worked in a broad range of media and is founder of Danimations. He works as a photographer, illustrator, writer, composer and actor. Some of his works explore art that are grounded in reality, and others that explore the formal relationships of sound and moving image. Dan's script-writing and animation work on 'Karaoke Nomad Squad' won Best Animation and Best Original Screenplay in the 2004 South Australian Zoom Awards, produced in partnership with Adelaide based group, the People's Republic of Animation. This work was followed by a short animation 'Coastal Crisis,' which won him a Special Commendation in the EcoTVC awards. Emma Sterling is an accomplished artist, photographer, editor and experimental and documentary filmmaker. Emma has exhibited photographic work in thirteen group exhibitions, including short films in numerous exhibitions during SALA Festival in August 2006 and 2007. She has enjoyed working as a part of a team on various short films in different crew roles, as well as autonomously within her solo work. In the past few years Dan Monceax and Emma Sterling have been working on a number of experimental audiovisual works. Their 16 minute experimental documentary short 'A Shift in Perception', shot entirely on Super8 film is currently completing a successful international film festival and gallery circuit, including screenings in over thirty countries. The film has won awards in Australia, the USA, the UK, France, Mexico and Canada (including four for 'Best Film') and has toured the USA with the prestigious Black Maria Film & Video Festival. Supported by the Southern Australian Youth Arts Board and the Southern Australian Film Corporation respectively, Dan and Emma attended IDFA last November where 'A Shift in Perception' enjoyed its international. The two recently completed a month long artists’ residency at Squeaky Wheel, Buffalo, New York in October, where they tinkered with experimental image making, animation and VJing. After launching a new body of work entitled ‘Supermarket’ with Dan Monceaux at the end of the residency, the pair will be performing the audio-visual work at venues across Canada and the USA until mid December.

Lead by Neil Hagerty (formerly of Pussy Galore) and Jennifer Herrema, the group swept up particles of mystic space rock, Stonesy twang, and cracked, guttural utterings across 10 static-deluged recordings.
