The 5th Annual Seattle Laptop Battle is coming up on Thursday, May 3rd at Chop Suey. Featuring 16 contestants from Seattle, Portland and Vancouver BC, the winner of this event will be the next local hero to represent the Northwest in the National Championships, December 2007. The final winner also receives prizes from a number of leading software and hardware manufacturers, creating even further friendly competition. This years selection of contestants includes music from a wide background of sounds - IDM, Crunk, Reggae, Drum & Bass, House, Techno, Experimental, Ghettotech, Pyschadelic, Electronica, Industrial, Japanese Classic Music, Freestyle, Dub, Glitch, and more. Stars of the Lid is a duo specializing in drone-based ambient music. They list among their influences minimalist and electronic composers such as Arvo Part, Zbigniew Preisner, Gavin Bryars and Henryk Gorecki. Christopher Willits is a musician and multimedia artist located in San Francisco, California. Striking a delicate balance between acoustic and electronic sounds and systems, Christopher manages to defy genre distinctions while still defining a "sound" unto his own.
