iPod Jukebox: D.C.'s Original MP3 DJ Night

Where: Cafe Saint Ex

Date: 2007-08-08 21:00:00

Type:

iPod Jukebox is Washington D.C.'s original MP3 DJ night. Once a month, we invite everyone to bring their MP3 players to Cafe Saint-Ex and play 12-minute sets of whatever they want, whether that's the latest indie rock singles, hot underground hip-hop or favorite '80s tunes. Sometimes, it's all three. All you need to participate is an MP3 player and some music you want to share with the crowd. iPod Jukebox begins at 9 p.m., though MP3Js are invited to arrive earlier to sign up for a 12-minute timeslot. Admission is free. Cafe Saint-Ex is located at 1847 14th St. NW. The closest Metro station is U Street/African-American Civil War Memorial/Cardozo on the Green and Yellow lines. Wondering how the evening works, or what others have been playing recently? For recent playlists, FAQs and more information about iPod Jukebox, head to our Web site, ipodjukebox.com.

Where: Jurys Washington Hotel

Date: 2007-06-13 00:00:00

The Creativity & Cognition Conference series began in 1993 and has evolved into a lively multidisciplinary event combining research and practice. Rigorous research is expanding as theoretic foundations are emerging and goals become more well-defined. Successful practice manifests itself in a growing array of creativity support tools for discovery and composition by software and other engineers, diverse scientists, product and graphic designers, architects, new media artists, musicians, educators, students, and many others. We believe that deeper understanding of creative processes and improved support tools can make more people more creative more of the time. Creativity & Cognition 2007 is focused on theme of cultivating and sustaining creativity: understanding how to design and evaluate computational support tools, digital media, and socio-technical environments that not only empower our creative processes and abilities, but that also encourage and nurture creative mindsets and lifestyles.

Cornelius

Where: 9:30 Club

Date: 2008-01-25 21:00:00

Type:

One of Japan's most innovative & respected musicians, Cornelius' music could be described as experimental & exploratory, mixing dissonant elements alongside more harmonically "pleasing" sounds. This tension, plus his practice of bringing in sounds & samples from mass culture, pure electronic tones, & sounds from nature (see his Point album) lead him to being sometimes categorized as an "acquired taste." Born Keigo Oyamada, he chose his pseudonym in tribute to the character of the same name from the movie 'Planet of the Apes.'
