$5.00 21+ Amplify: New Music Series Brought to you in part by UR Chicago, WOXY, Music Nation & Schubas San Franciscans LoveLikeFire have a lot to be thankful for. Their quietly released debut EP Bed of Gold (July, 2006) and restless gigging about the West Coast quickly caught the attention and glowing praise of local institutions such as the LA Weekly, The Onion, and San Francisco Magazine. They also coaxed the ears of individuals like producer Jeff Saltzman (The Killers, The Sounds) and engineer Reto Peter (Modest Mouse). Both contributed to various songs on LoveLikeFire's forthcoming release An Ocean in the Air. Not bad considering they came together by chance.

Soul lives below the belt, and whether youre looking to be grinding it slow or shaking it up good, the Detroit Cobras bring it tough and tender, savage and sweet. With Tied And True, their first new record in three years, the Cobras practically done created a new genre all for themselves, delivering the sonic goods to back up some seriously supernatural soulful vocal gifts. Untrained and undisciplined (and how!), Rachel started out by belting revved-up rock yowlers and has grown into the gen-u-ine gutsy, vulnerable, delicate and commanding soul-on-the-edge singer. She effortlessly glides from R&B sass, to girl group pathos to kitten-with-a-whip toughness with a snap of her chipped fingernails. Longtime musical partner in crime, guitarist Mary Ramirez keeps the DE-troit Motor City in the Cobras with her body shop wallop, greasy rock n soul rhythms and a bold grasp of old school, big room arrangements. Their 2003 effort 'One Step Forward' was recorded in Jamaica, Cameroon, London and Paris with a wide array of musicians, including legendary African saxophonist Manu Dibango and underground hip-hop star Talib Kweli. The group's first release, 'Princesses Nubiennes,' was a worldwide hit, selling more units in America than any other foreign-language album of the !90s.
