The United States needed a major animation event, so we made the PLATFORM International Animation Festival. PLATFORM will debut June 25-30, 2007 in beautiful Portland, Oregon. PLATFORM is a brand new kind of festival. Besides being an international competition with CASH PRIZES, we're breaking the boundaries into other art forms: comics, illustration, character and toy design, motion graphics, gallery art and live action cinema will all have a place here. We want the Festival to be a literal PLATFORM for artists, innovations, debate and discussion and for exploring new developments in animation. Whether the animation was done for theaters or cell phones or the side of a building, if it is brilliant and interesting, we will show it. This is an important period for animation. The rapid growth of technology changes the possibilities of our craft every day. We want you to be able to find new answers and new opportunities with the best of the industry. Portland is the perfect place for the Festival. The city has its own thriving animation community and is a center for filmmaking, comics and indie music. Plus, Portland has amazing restaurants and microbreweries. The PLATFORM Festival will be centered in Antoinette Hatfield Hall at the PORTLAND CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS. The PCPA has state-of-the-art theaters, a restaurant, two bars and plenty of spaces for meeting and talking. You can even update your site or check in with your email using the Festival's free wi-fi system. The Center's adjoining street will be closed off to traffic and turned into an outdoor terrace bar and cafe for Festival attendees. The INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION is open to films under 40 minutes (with no minimum running time) and there is NO ENTRY FEE. Directors with films in competition will be provided with complimentary accommodation, meal allowances and Festival passes. Renowned international judges will give awards in categories covering commercial and independent films, student animation and films for new platforms, including cell phones and the internet. CLICK HERE for competition categories. PLATFORM is pleased to announce an innovative competition section for the up and coming art form of animated installations, which explore the uses of animation in environments from art galleries and warehouses to outdoor public spaces. This section of the Festival will be concentrated in the reclaimed industrial neighborhood of the Pearl. A late evening walking tour will be among the events marking the gala opening of the Installation exhibits. The PLATFORM program features premieres and retrospectives, rare screenings, guest speakers, exhibitions, workshops with leading artists, parties, a picnic and plenty of opportunities for meeting new friends and likeminded artists. There will be something for everyone, from animation professionals to students of all levels to the general public.

The St. Agatha Peace and Social Justice Team will host a moderated panel discussion concerning the relationship between religious faith and the media on Wednesday, April 11 at 7:00 p.m. The panel and forum are open to the public -- all are invited. The panel will feature KPTV anchor and veteran reporter Jim Hyde; Pulitzer-prize-winning staff writer for The Oregonian, Julie Sullivan; and reporter Nancy Haught, who covers religion for The Oregonian and has also served as a reporter for The Catholic Sentinel. Expected topics: -- What issues get covered in the newsroom (and what don't) and why? -- Do newsrooms and churches understand one another? Should they? -- What personal or professional challenges come with reporting on hot-button topics within the Catholic Church? The event will start with brief individual presentations by each guest, followed by a moderated discussion and an open dialogue. The discussion will be held at the St. Agatha Parish Hall, located at 7983 SE 15th in the Sellwood neighborhood of Portland. Hope to see you here. Please feel free to spread the word.

Bitter:Sweet (Shana Halligan and Kiran Shahani) deliver a sensual and playful concoction of lush grooves, lounge, and modern Electronic beats with their debut album, The Mating Game. On the album, Halligan's seductive vocals slide smoothly over the duo's exquisite production. Recently featured in The Devil Wears Prada soundtrack, in episodes of Entourage, Nip and Tuck and Grey's Anatomy, their music is making its mark in pop culture while staying true to the underground and remaining a critical favorite. This will be an amazing night of music with Bitter:Sweet. Promising to unveil some brand new material, this is one show not to be missed.

The Women's Networking Group is a friendly, informal group of women who meet regularly to socialize, promote their businesses or non-profits, seek employment, collaborate, ask questions and trade leads. The group is a mix of core members and newcomers, a combination which fosters intimacy while still staying fresh. Our members represent a wide range of professions, from voice coaches and jewelry designers to real estate brokers and medical professionals. WNG is also a great opportunity to build business partnerships. The group has given birth to several smaller collaborative projects, from fashion shows to financial advice workshops, and we encourage cooperation among individual members. WNG meetings generally take place twice a month, with one meeting happening at CubeSpace (622 SE Grand Ave.) and the other being hosted in the home of a WNG member. Cost is $18. Dinner and beverages are provided. Pre-registration and pre-payment are strongly encouraged; we do limit attendance to 20 women. In an effort to provide the maximum benefit to everyone concerned, we ask for 48 hours' notice if a pre-registered woman needs to cancel; this allows us to fill her slot. Barring emergencies, if you need to cancel on shorter notice than 48 hours, you will still be charged.

The Urban Assault Ride™ is a funky bike scavenger hunt that involves street-smart riding, obstacle courses, and a huge after party. Mental muscle is just as important as bike skills as teams of 2 choose their own course to checkpoints around the city. The event is well known for its checkpoints where physical and mental obstacle courses must be completed before moving on. Kinda like American Gladiators with a demented cycling twist. The first team to hit all of the checkpoint and cross the finish line wins! Then the party begins with New Belgium beer and lots more two-wheeled shenanigans! It is THE MOST FUN you will ever have on a bike.
