The Lakeshore Theater’s artistic director Chris Ritter, together with Paul Provenza, director of the hit film The Aristocrats, is proud to present stand-up comedian Doug Stanhope for two nights only on April 20 and 21 at the Lakeshore Theater, 3175 N. Broadway. Stanhope’s no-nonsense act has earned him the title of “one of the funniest stand-up comedians of all time” from critics internationally, with an explicit and brutally honest show that will entertain and enlighten audiences. Beginning his stand-up career in Las Vegas in 1990, he has been named one of the “Top Ten Comedians (2002)” by Variety and Hollywood Reporter and was the winner of both the San Francisco Comedy Competition and the Strathmore Press Award in 2002. He has released three CDs and two DVDs, including his latest comically twisted production Deadbeat Hero in 2004. His television résumé includes a guess stint hosting The Man Show on Comedy Central and appearances on The Howard Stern Show and Comedy Central Presents. Stanhope also wrote, produced and starred in FOX’s Invasion of the Hidden Cameras. His unforgettable and uninhibited stand-up material, ranging from real life experience to political comedy satire to volatile social criticism, will have audiences laughing out of their seats. “He is 100% honest and fearless,” Provenza said of Stanhope. “He raises the bar for all comedians, period. He is, in my opinion, by any index you choose, the best pure standup comedian working today.” The Lakeshore Theater is a 338-seat intimate space located in Chicago’s trendy Lakeview neighborhood at 3175 N. Broadway. Featuring a full bar, professional lighting and sound system, connected box office and full dressing rooms, the theater is perfect accommodation for comedians, concerts and full-length productions alike.
