Tom Waits Peepshow is a small-scale spectacular featuring dance, puppetry, and risqué vaudeville weirdness, set to the music of Tom Waits and played live by Austin's No Salvation Army Band. This is not a literal peepshow, but instead a peek through the keyhole at the sin and salvation, the sweet nothings and sour grapes that make up the Tom Waits universe as we see it. In the Broken Clock Cabaret you'll see one dancing bear, two fallen showgirls, three disgruntled gravediggers, and dozens of other oddities. From the big top to the back alley, we proudly present the arcane visions for numerous songs--concentrating on the strange world created by Waits and his wife Kathleen Brennan, from 1983 through the present.

In Slavic folklore, Rusalki are the restless spirits of women who have died unjust, untimely, or unnatural deaths. They inhabit the waters, forests, and fields, luring people to them with their mesmerizing songs and wild laughter. Rusalki are also spinners who regulate fertility, the cycles of the seasons and the weather. Performed by the nine powerful vocalists of Kitka, THE RUSALKA CYCLE is a riveting dream-like journey weaving traditional Eastern European songs together with original music by Mariana Sadovska in a haunting and evocative contemporary theater piece directed by Ellen Sebastian Chang. THE RUSALKA CYCLE is a multiyear, international project that included a research expedition and tour to Ukraine. The Ukrainian journey took Kitka to remote rural villages where elder women keep alive ancient Rusalka lore. In these village expeditions, Kitka participated in the festivities and rituals of Rusalnaia Nedelia (Rusalka week), culminating their journey in the village of Havronshchyna for the ritual Provedu Rusalok (the leading of the Rusalki to their underworld homes). While in Havronshchyna, the artists also gathered songs and oral histories from the villages' inhabitants, many of whom are refugee-evacuees of nearby villages destroyed by the 1986 Chernobyl disaster. THE RUSALKA CYCLE premiered in Oakland, CA in November 2005 to sold-out houses and overwhelming public acclaim. The January 2008 San Francisco revival of The Rusalka Cycle marks the release of a CD featuring the production's music, and precedes the touring of the production to national and international theater festivals. Kitka was founded in 1979 by a group of singers who shared a passion for the stunning dissonances, asymmetric rhythms, lush harmonies, and resonant strength of Eastern European women's vocal traditions. Through performances, recordings, educational programs, commissions, and collaborations, Kitka has exposed millions to the stirring beauty of their unique repertoire. $15-$28.

As usual, we would be rotating people around the tables every 30-45 minutes. Below is the details. Our event usually has 25-30 people showed up (Please ignore the number of RSVPs on the Upcoming.org as I would be promoting the events via a few channels.) When: Saturday March 22nd 7:00pm-10:30pm Location: Shoreline Billiards at 1400 North Shoreline Blvd. #C-1, Mountain View, CA Cost: $15.00/person to be collected when signing in. For those who would like to stay & play more pool after the event finished at 10:30pm, Shoreline Billiards offer our group $5 flat fee per person til they close at 2am RSVP: Please email me @ soyeeng@gmail.com by Friday March 21st. I need your FULL name,email address, number of guests (if any) with their names, phone number optional. Although RSVP is not required, it would be helpful to let me know if you plan on coming. I would rotate people around tables every 40-45 minutes. Table assignment is random, though I would make my best effort to make sure a good gender mix per table. If you got rotated to a table that you have already played with 2 out of 3 players TWICE, please let me know, I would try my best to switch table for you. 2. I would try to have 4 people per table. 3. Since we would be rotating, it's less confusing if everyone plays the same rules. Game rules can be emailed if requested & is available on the event date. 4. When table assignment has announced, everyone has to move to their next assigned table even if you "think" you are almost done with the game, since it's impossible for every table to finish at the same time, that way it won't slow down the table rotation for everyone. 5. If you need to leave early, please let me know 10 min before you actually leave, so I would leave your name out for next rotation. Pang is joined by two bandits who become his sworn blood brothers. Zhao (Andy Lau) and Jiang (Takeshi Kaneshiro) help Pang’s rise to power, carrying out impossible campaigns for the Qing court, defeating Taiping rebels and conquering cities.
