The Columbia Pike Blues Festival presents national talent in a relaxed block party atmosphere. Neighhbors and bluespeople alike turn out to see and be seen. The free event takes place on June 17 from noon to 6 p.m. This year’s acoustic headliner is Ernie Hawkins, whose 2003 CD, “Mean Little Poodle,” was named an Editor’s Choice by Acoustic Guitar magazines. One great sound from two talented bluesmen – that’s what Smokin’ Joe Kubek and B’nois King deliver. The Blind Pig recording artists are carrying on the great guitar/vocal bluesman tradition by specializing – Kubek on guitar and King on vocals – because that’s how it sounds best. Memphis Gold will provide the authentic downhome blues sound, dating to his formative years busking on Beale Street. The day will also feature Karl Stoll & the Danger Zone, and Columbia Pike’s own band, The Curbfeelers, featuring Sally Swan on vocals and bass and full horn section.

Mojo Nation’s brand-new CD “Everybody Loves a Happy Ending” is finally here! Steve Sidley, the multi-instrumentalist/ songwriter/ mastermind behind Mojo Nation, has supported many national and regional acts over the years including Sam’s House, Vertical Horizon, Derryberry & Alagia, Annie Sidley and The True. His latest creation, Mojo Nation, celebrates their debut release with an “all ages” show at the popular venue The IOTA Club and Café. Mojo Nation’s music can be described as indie rock with a defined pop sensibility that also incorporates elements of funk, reggae and hip-hop into a densely layered sound. As a live act, Steve Sidley and Mojo Nation are a dynamic, high energy experience with Steve playing an amazing variety of instruments on stage and rocking major venues, colleges and festivals with eye grabbing and ear catching intensity. With their huge sound and Steve’s emotionally resonant songs they quickly connect with and win over audiences with their musicianship and playful charm (which is no small feat for a band dedicated to its original music in a market becoming increasingly dominated by tribute and cover bands.) Mojo Nation’s new CD “Everybody Loves a Happy Ending” was mixed by longtime friend Doug Derryberry (Dave Matthews, Bruce Hornsby) and will be hitting college and independent radio airwaves across the country on March 31.
