Film Screening: We the People - A fundraiser for Equality Ca...

Where: Fool's Foundation

Date: 2007-05-19 19:00:00

Type:

Saturday, May 19, 2007. Location: Fools Foundation – 1025 19th St, Sacramento. Off of K St between 19th & 20th next to the back end of Old Spaghetti Factory. Equality California, Shiny Object, Fools Foundation, and the Sacramento International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival present a fundraiser for Equality California with a very special screening of the documentary We the People! We The People could not have come along at a better time in American history. At a time when Spain and Canada have embraced the concept and legalized same sex marriages, the United States finds itself teetering on the edge of conflict. We The People promotes understanding and compassion and attempts to bridge the chasm of intolerance that divides this great nation. It provides an opportunity to meet same sex couples and their families, with the hope that a greater understanding and acceptance will be born based upon reality not upon political rhetoric. We The People isn't a film about a minority group; it's a film about people you know! West Sacramento mayor, and recently-announced state Assembly candidate Christopher Cabaldon will be in attendance and speaking following the film. We’re also working on lining up one more special guest speaker. EQCA is currently working on some other events for the evening as well. Please note: doors open at 6:30 PM on this evening, and advance tickets will be for sale (website for that coming soon - please check http://www.shiny-object.com/screenings/ for a link). Advance tickets are recommended. Suggested minimum donation for admission is $10.00, sliding up to $20.00 depending on what you can afford. Movies on a Big Screen gift certificates will not be accepted for this event. Equality California is a great and active organization, working towards reducing discrimination and intolerance directed towards LGBT Californians. We urge you to take a look at their site to learn a bit more about what they do: http://www.eqca.org/site/pp.asp?c=9oINKWMCF&b=35974 You can always check http://www.shiny-object.com/screenings/

Peace Lutheran Ministries Vacation Bible School Son Force...

What is Vacation Bible School June 26 -29, 2007 9am-12 noon Vacation Bible School is the premiere outreach event of the year for many churches. Few other events offer the potential to reach out to children and adults in our community the way VBS can. It offers a powerful and unique opportunity for sharing Jesus Christ and positively impacting the kingdom of God. This years’ VBS theme is Son Force Kids. The Son Force Kids special agents will be following the words of Joshua 1:9: Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. Son force special agents gather to prepare for their five daily missions: trust, unite, train, follow, and lead. While at VBS the special agents will have the opportunity to grow in their understanding of what it means to serve. God with courage as they advance from Level 1 to Level 5 agents. From the courage shown by baby Moses’ family, Level 1 special agents will learn to trust in God’s plans. Following Esther’s example, Level 2 special agents will be encouraged to unite with God’s people. To help them make wise choices like Daniel did, Level 3 special agents will learn to train for God’s service. Just as Jeremiah obeyed God when it was difficult Level 4 special agents will learn to follow in god’s path, finally like Joshua and Caleb, Level 5 special agents will get ready to lead others to God’s promises. We hope to see you children (special agents) at our VBS,from June 26 -29, 2007 9am-12 noon. If you would like more information please call us or e-mail at the address below. Thank you and God bless. Phone:(916)927-5934 vbs@peacelutheranministires.org
