The Hotel Utah open mic is the epicenter of San Francisco's singer-songwriter community. Its stage attracts performers at all stages of their careers: from seasoned veterans to first-timers. It attracts music fans who know a good thing when they see it. The musicians who come regularly don't come just to get a little "stage time" - they come because of the community that calls Monday at The Utah home - and the musicians that come in for the first time eventually start to come regularly... So come on down this monday, have a beer, bring your guitar if that's your thing, and sit back and enjoy. Feature performer - BIOVO

Exploding out of San Francisco's hotbed of musical creativity, The Robber Barons have elicited more descriptions of their music than can be counted. The word that keeps bubbling to the top is "fresh." Having been compared to artists as far reaching as Steve Earle and The Replacements, The Robber Barons run the gamut from Americana to alternative rock without abandoning a pop sensibility.

Event: 'BIG EVENT: Mobility: IWhere – Entrepreneurship And Business Opportunities When My Mobile Device Knows My Physical Location Better Then Me' Business Interface Groups – where Business & Technology collide! Maps become a required component of many online applications, creating a new market for entrepreneurs and investors to invent revenue models and return on investment. GIS and geographical search makes it possible for users to search content on their mobile device and use local search engines for a complete web search experience. Companies are increasingly turning to their users to collect data, such as random cell phones on the highway help deliver Google traffic information. Virtual representations of the physical world are becoming more realistic and important. As this happens, their geographic location becomes more accurate; therefore, more relevant to almost everything people do on the go, since the immediacy of the information needed is more critical. The right platforms and tools to easily create geographical content have finally emerged to represent and search the physical world online. With geographical data and maps online a new breed of developers with increasingly powerful tools built on the back of open standards and free APIs from the likes of Google, is a new way to share your location with friends or with other websites and services! It's built on open APIs so that developers can build all kinds of applications that respond to your location. These topics, and more, will be explored in a lively discussion by pur expert panel. Questions they will be looking to answer include: • What is an LBS platform? Examples? • Compare the different LBS API’s openly available nowadays. • What is the typical revenue generating business models based on LBS? • How an open source LBS platform can generate revenues and profits? • How is the location information generated while you roam around? • How Privacy is affected, and what can be done about it? The April meeting of BayFP is Thursday the 17th at 7:30pm at Citizen Space, 425 2nd Street, #300, San Francisco. Jake Donham will be giving his talk on Twelf that was postponed from last month. "Twelf is a proof assistant and programming language based on typed logic programming. "It is full of interesting and beautiful ideas. I’m going to use Twelf as a jumping-off point to talk about some of those ideas: judgments and inference rules; proof search and logic programming; proofs as programs; dependent types; higher-order abstract syntax. I won’t go too deep into the technicalities of Twelf but I’ll try to explain why Twelf is interesting in comparison with other proof assistants like Coq." As always, the talk is free and open to all
