Dalton Publishing announces the release of Owen Egerton’s first collection of short stories How Best to Avoid Dying. "If Franz Kafka had lived in central Texas and seen too many midnight movies, he would have been Owen Egerton. This is a divinely weird collection." -- Neal Pollack As the reputation of the Austin literary scene continues to grow, Owen Egerton’s work rockets through the forefront. Austin author and comic performer Owen Egerton (the Sinus Show, Plays Well with Others) has crafted a collection of dark, heartbreaking, and often laugh-out-loud stories exploring death and its slippery when wet loopholes. Egerton’s writing harvests the comic energy and imagination he brings to the stage and film and lets the bounty pour forth on the open landscape of his rich fiction. Spelling bees turn deadly; Lazarus is living in modern day America and begging Jesus to reverse his miracle; a novelist becomes a celebrity not for writing, but for emptying his bowels on his worst critic’s waterbed. His writing style sizzles with sharp humor and musical sentences, which reward the reader with revealing meditations on life’s ending chapter. And if this is the last thing you read, this is truly as satisfying a last meal as any mortal might request.

In Shoot Him If He Runs, the newest addition to Stuart Woods' bestselling series, Stone Barrington and Holly Barker pursue a master spy and murderer in a tropical paradise where very little is as it seems. Teddy Fay, a rogue agent last seen escaping an imploding building in Iron Orchid, has been considered dead for some time now. But President Will Lee thinks Teddy may still be alive. In a top-secret Oval Office meeting, Stone learns that he and his cohorts, Holly Barker and Dino Baldachetti, are being sent to the beautiful Caribbean island of St. Marks, courtesy of the CIA, to track down Teddy once and for all. St. Marks is a vacationer's paradise, but its luxurious beach clubs and secluded mountain villas are home to corrupt local politicians and more than a few American ex-pats with murky personal histories. Stone and Holly soon discover that in St. Marks, everyone is hiding something, and Teddy Fay may just be hiding in plain sight. Join Wordsmiths Books on September 25th, the release date of the book, for Stuart Woods' first Atlanta book signing for Shoot Him If He Runs.

Rising Appalachia are two sisters playin' old-time funky fiddle/banjo music. Armed with an electric violin, a ukulele and a bass guitar, Bitch (formerly of Bitch and Animal), takes the stage with her band The Exciting Conclusion, featuring 'The L Word's' Daniela Sea. Both an entertainer and songwriter she has pulled audiences to their feet worldwide with her politically charged and personally wrenched lyrics, her atypical instrumentation, minimalist sound and wildly dramatic stage persona. Bitch and the Exciting Conclusion are continuing the Bitch and Animal tradition of making music that is symphonic, beatworthy, break your heart balladry, and raise the roof revolutionary.
